From the podium of the European Championships to the Bird's Nest familiar to Chinese audiences, Jos Verlooy has consistently proven his strength with steady performances. As one of the key representatives of Belgian equestrian sport, he boasts an impressive collection of honours from top European competitions. In recent years, through the consistent performance of multiple horses across various events, he has demonstrated a seasoned rider’s understanding of race rhythm, course assessment and horse training. During the Masters in both 2024 and 2025, he also served as a mentor for the Masters’ Academy, sharing his experience of international elite competitions with young riders. In October 2026, this Belgian star will return to the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) to take on new challenges alongside the world’s top riders.

Jos Verlooy | Four-Time Belgian Champion from an Equestrian Family 

Born on 15 December 1995, Jos Verlooy hails from a Belgian equestrian family. He displayed remarkable riding talent from his junior years and has grown to become one of the leading riders of Belgium’s younger generation.

He claimed the Belgian Senior National Championship title for three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021. In 2025, riding FTS Killossery Konfusion, he secured his fourth championship victory, making him the first rider in Belgian history to win this title four times. On the international stage, he has represented Belgium at the European Championships. At the 2019 Rotterdam European Championships, he helped Team Belgium win the team gold medal and took home an individual bronze.

Bird's Nest 2025 | Podium Success and a Glorious Return 

At the 12th Longines Beijing International Equestrian Masters 2025, Jos partnered with Kraque Boom d’Avifauna Z and delivered outstanding results. He claimed victory in the 140cm International Welcome Stakes with a clear round in 81.14 seconds, took team silver and individual bronze in the 145cm Professional Rider Pairing Competition, and secured runner-up in the 150cm Longines Grand Prix with two clear rounds and a time of 47.59 seconds. This series of podium finishes deepened Jos’s sporting bond with the Bird's Nest. Beyond competition, he appeared as a Masters’ Academy mentor at the Masters training camp. He delivered on-site coaching for young riders in both 2024 and 2025, helping riders fulfil their dreams at the Bird's Nest.

2026 Season | Rotating Horses, Consistent Performances
In the 2026 season, Jos continues to rely on a system of developing multiple horses in parallel, seeking optimal partnerships across different competitions. At the Spruce Meadows event in Canada in June, riding Parise Van Den Dael, he claimed the title in the 150cm Francis Family Cup. Amid high-level competition, the pair demonstrated steady coordination and outstanding on-the-day performance, once again proving Jos’s ability to build tacit partnerships with different types of horses.

Return to the Bird's Nest | With Past Glory, for a New Journey 
Building on championship successes from European circuits, impressive podium records at the Bird's Nest, and consistent results at multiple 5-star competitions in the 2026 season, Jos Verlooy returns to Beijing with an even more polished competitive form. The 13th Longines Beijing International Equestrian Masters will be held at the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) from 15 to 18 October 2026.
